Koolabah

A country garden shaped by climate, scale and the landscape of Central West NSW.

Site Context

The Site

The site presented a compelling creative challenge: a large, exposed country property with poor native soils, punishing summer heat, and biting winter cold. Every decision had to answer to the climate first. Rather than imposing a formal structure onto the land, the design followed the natural contours and existing levels of the property, allowing the garden to feel as though it has always belonged here.

Planting Strategy

Planting and Soil

A carefully considered palette of climate-resilient perennials was selected to withstand the extremes of the Central West while preserving uninterrupted views across the surrounding landscape.

Key Considerations
Climate-resilient perennial planting
Extensive soil preparation
Preservation of surrounding views
Seasonal texture and softness
Long-term garden sustainability

Outcome

The Result

As Koolabah matures, it will evolve into something truly rare: a generous, open country garden of real presence and beauty, one that holds its own against the vastness of the landscape while remaining entirely at one with it.

Seasonal planting will gradually bring softness and movement to the property, creating a garden that feels settled, enduring and deeply connected to the rhythms of the Central West.
