Climate & Conditions

Designing for Western Australia

A sun-drenched garden path flanked by mature green trees and lush white hydrangea bushes.

Western Australia presents a range of distinct growing conditions. Perth’s dry summers and mild winters share characteristics with the gardens of southern France and Italy that have long informed Whittemore Brown Design’s approach. The Margaret River region and the Great Southern share a similarly temperate character, supporting a range of formal planting and structured design.

Further inland, hotter and more arid conditions require specific knowledge of soil preparation, plant selection and material durability. Designing for an unfamiliar region begins with understanding its soils, its climate and its constraints before a single line is drawn.
